Important: Please read carefully.
Anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult a person over the age of 18 when day fishing. Night fishing is permitted only for individuals aged 18 or over who hold a valid day and night Manderson Trust membership. Individuals under 18 wishing to night fish must be accompanied by an adult who holds a valid day and night Manderson Trust membership, covering all participants.
Upon arrival, we advise all anglers to check and familiarise themselves with the rules . Please ensure these rules are followed at all times.
Regular rig and swim checks are carried out by bailiffs and committee members.
As you can appreciate, the Trust is run entirely by volunteers and relies on funding to operate. We kindly ask for your cooperation in helping us look after the lakes and fish so that everyone can continue to enjoy them.
Anglers found breaking the rules will be asked to leave the complex. Please ensure landing nets and mats are dipped in the dip tank upon arrival, if changing lakes mats and nets must be dipped before fishing different lakes.
All anglers must have an unhooking mat or cradle before fishing.
Fishing is not permitted without one.
Lake Rules
- No braided line to be used as a main line.
- Braided hooklink must be coated.
- No keepnets allowed (Only on lake 1 on match days)
- Please take all unused bait home with you.
- Barbless/Micro barb hooks only.
- MAXIMUM of two rods per angler.
- Carp Anglers need to carry carp care (Antiseptic) at all times.
- No rods to be left unattended.
- No artificial baits to be used.
- Please be respectful of others on the lake. When socializing, keep noise to a minimum so everyone can enjoy their fishing experience.
- No predator fishing so no spinning, dead or live baiting.
- Leads must easily discharge from rigs, or if a ‘Helicopter’ or ‘Chod-style’ rig is used, the hook link must easily slide off the tubing. (No fixed leads or any other ‘death rig’.)
- All BBQs must be raised from the floor (do not burn the grass, etc.). All ash is to be taken away from the site. No fires.
- “Fishing lures are not prohibited on any of our lakes.”
- Please fish only on platforms provided.
- Rubbish / Litter. All rubbish / litter must be removed from your swim and taken away from the fishery when you leave (including tea bags and cigarette butts) or use bins supplied at main entrance.
- Anglers must use the Carp Cradle or unhooking mat/ weigh slings
- When taking pictures must be over unhooking mat or cradle.
- Fish must always be transported from the Carp Cradle/unhooking mat back to the water in the sling. Under no circumstances should a fish be carried in your arms.
- No nuts of any kind.
- Lead core is not allowed.
- No straight through line.
- Rigs must be safe with the lead able to eject if the fish gets snagged (Fish safe rig)
- No retaining carp. Other than for 5 minutes while preparing the camera etc., fish must not be retained.
- “Anglers may only fish from one platform/swim at a time. All tackle must be fully moved before fishing from a new platform.”
- Check: Inspect all equipment, clothing, and footwear for mud, plant material, and animals (e.g., zebra mussels, killer shrimp, didymo) after leaving the water. Remove any found material and leave it at the site.
- Clean: Thoroughly clean all parts of bait boats, engines, and gear with tap water. Use hot water (above 45°C) or high-pressure spray if possible, paying special attention to damp, hard-to-reach areas.
- Dry: Drain all water from the equipment. Dry all items for at least 48 hours, as some invasive species can survive in damp, cool conditions for over two weeks.

Carp Handling Equipment Rules
- Wet Equipment Prohibited nets, slings, and unhooking mats must never be brought on site wet. If caught, you will be asked to leave immediately; there is no warning.
- Equipment Display Requirement all carp handling equipment must be displayed in the open air before fishing. Example: your weigh sling should sit on top of your unhooking mat or cradle.
- Health & Safety Koi Herpes Virus (KHV) does not survive in sunlight, so open-air display is essential.
Fish Handling
- Fish Welfare First best-practice fish handling is expected from all anglers. The welfare of the fish must always be paramount.
- Equipment Preparedness ensure all carp handling equipment is ready in your swim before lifting a fish:
Wetted weigh slings, Scales (zeroed), Forceps, Water bucket, Camera, Carp care treatments
Safe Fish Transport
- Fish must be transported in the landing net, with the weigh sling positioned underneath before lifting. Fish must be returned to the water in a secure sling.
- Fish must never be carried in your hands to or from the water.
- Photography & Observation Keep the fish wet at all times during photography or other handling.
- Injury/Theft/Damage. Members and their guests use the site and lakes entirely at their own risk. The Manderson Trust will not accept responsibility for any losses, damage, injuries, etc. to any member (or guest), their equipment or their vehicles. Fishing lakes have inherent risks, such as (but not limited to) tripping, drowning, flooding and falling trees, risks that cannot be mitigated, and you accept them if you fish/enter the venue.
- Rule Changes. It may be necessary to amend existing or add new rules during the course of the season. All members will be notified in the event that any changes are made.
